Ten Day Challenge: Make Realistic Goals For 2016

Pet peeve: fitness gurus who push their clients to make drastic fitness resolutions for the new year.

Decades in this industry have proven to me that people rarely follow through on drastic lifestyle changes. Instead, they because exhausted by the intensity or disappointed in themselves for not being able to stick with the change.

Instead, I advise you to take small steps that will help you build a healthier lifestyle over time. If you truly embrace the smaller changes, they’ll add up to transformations.

Try making the changes below for TEN DAYS and see how you feel:

  1. Write out your health goals for yourself, and visualize what your lifestyle will be like during the ten day challenge.
  2. Go 100% for ten days only plant-based nutrition, and if you have to have animal protein, make it fish. Wondering how to identify plant-based foods that will give you enough energy to accomplish everything you do in a given day? I can help you with that! Click here.
  3. Cut out processed foods for ten days. Remove them from your house completely so you aren’t tempted to indulge. (Keep in mind that because of their sugar and salt contents are addictive, so you are better off making them inaccessible during your ten days.)
  4. Commit to five minutes of meditation each day to calm your mind and focus on what is really important to you.
  5. Drink water with a squeeze of lemon (ten glasses a day). Lemon helps with digestion, reduces inflammation and has many other health benefits. Read about it here.
  6. If you do not belong to a gym, get a trial period pass and only do classes and programs that suit you. The goal is to not be excruciatingly sore, but to feel energized.
  7. Try a yoga class taught by someone who gets rave reviews for their teaching skills. The instructor makes a huge difference: some are their to show off their amazing strength and flexibility; others are oriented to YOU and want to provide you with an amazing yoga experience. If you’re in Orlando, I recommend Orlando Power Yoga.
  8. Get outside for 20 minutes a day: walk, stretch and breathe. Shoveling snow counts!!
  9. Spend your time with people that are like-minded and will encourage you to stick to your ten day challenge.
  10. Be kind to yourself. The ten day challenge is truly challenging, so pick and choose which items on the list are realistic for you and focus on those. Set yourself up for success!
  11. Lastly, shut down the negativity. Avoid media that brings you down, whether it’s television, social media, music or anything else. Stay focused on messages that support your positive outlook!
